resistance is NOT futile!

last night i helped with the kids for christ/youth event at church.  the moms were in charge of serving food to all the kiddos.  there were chips and cookies and cokes out the wazoo!  but i was so proud of myself because i resisted ALL of that junk!  a week ago i would have been snacking on all of it.  i just drank my diet A&W (which was really good, by the way) and watched everyone else consume that stuff.

tonight was bunco night, and i finally broke my not-winning-a-prize-streak!  i had 12 baby buncos and thought i had that prize won with no competition.  wrong!  someone else had 12, so we had a roll-off and i won!  woo hoo!  (if you don't play bunco, that last paragraph probably made no sense to you.)

long week

this week seemed to drag on and on!  i don't know why, but i was exhausted by the end of it!

thursday after school i made the mistake of going to wal-mart.  ugh.  it was busy and i was tired.  it took longer than i wanted, so i didn't get home until after 5:30.  i still had to make supper, my feet were killing me, and i had a terrible headache.  needless to say, i was not a nice person to be around.  poor colby was trying to do his homework while i was making supper and i know i groaned at him a couple of times when he asked me questions.  what a bad mom.

once supper and dishes were done, i just plopped down on the couch.  i had zero energy.  smudge jumped right up there behind my head and started squeaking his new toy right in my ear!  i just looked at him and said, "really?" since i hadn't taken a picture that day, he became my photo of the day just because i had my phone in my hand and was too lazy to think of anything else to photograph!

i wasn't quite as exhausted friday afternoon.  i don't know why. it was just as crazy as thursday!  i was proud of myself, though.  this was the first day that i didn't have a carbonated beverage! (since monday i've had one diet dr. pepper a day to help get me off of regular dr. pepper.)  i was also proud of myself because of my supper choice.

colby had a friend come over and play after school.  i ordered a pizza for them for supper.  before the pizza arrived, i had a weight watchers frozen dinner and a big glass of water so i wouldn't be tempted by hunger.  it worked!  i didn't do it myself, though.  i prayed that morning that God would help me make good choices one day at time.  i can't make this change myself.  i've tried before, and it doesn't work.  relying on Him is the only way to do this.

supper!

i slept in late this morning. yay!  when i came in the living room and sat down in my chair, i looked over at the recliner and saw this:  (i thought it was funny!  he looked pretty scared to me.)
"oh, no!  don't hurt elmo!" ~elmo
this afternoon the boys and i saw the movie tangled.  i really enjoyed it.  it was disney's version of rapunzel.  spencer claims he didn't like it, and colby said on a scale of 1-10, it was a five.  boys!

after that we went to the hospital to meet our youth minister's new baby girl!  she was so cute!

then we went to the community center to see an art display.  spencer has 2 pieces featured!!!  it's so funny because he HAD to take art last semester and he was so mad about it!  he griped about the class every day and how much he hated doing art.  i don't understand why he hated it so much.  i thought his artwork was amazing!  i wish i had that kind of talent!

happy birthday, dr. seuss!

this week at school we've been celebrating dr.seuss's birthday, which is actually today.  part of our celebration was to decorate our classroom door based on one of dr. seuss's books.  my class chose fox in socks. our door turned out soooo cute!

on monday spencer brought home a baritone to practice.  he'll soon be switching to this from a trumpet. it has a lower tone, but it's still just as loud!  i'm impressed with his musical ability.  i wish i had learned to read music.

on tuesday, i did something to improve my health.  i joined weight watchers AGAIN.  if you've followed my blog for long, you know that i've joined before and i've quit before.  i'm praying that this time i will fully rely on God to help me make this change one day at a time.

so my photo of the day is of a recipe that was on display at my first weight watchers meeting.

tonight i was sitting by my little buddy, rylie, having supper before bible class.  she took a bit of her corn dog, and i heard a little gasp from her direction.  she pointed her corn dog at me and said, "my corn dog has a hot dog in it!"  adorable!

it's time for an update!

nothing exciting happened last week.  it seemed like it took forever for it to end, though!

wednesday night after bible class there was a baptism.  another one of my little buddies, jacob, sat with colby and me.  at one point both little boys were sitting on my lap, and they both gave me a big hug.  jacob whispered to me, "do i give better hugs than colby?"  so cute!!!

thursday night i hosted a beauty control spa party at my house.  i really don't know why i did it since girly stuff is NOT my thing!  i don't even wash my face before i go to bed!  but my favorite part of the spa party was when we rubbed this white cream all over our mouths and let it dry.  when you wipe it off your lips feel awesome!

friday night daryl and spencer went to a high school basketball game while colby and i stayed home.  there was NOTHING good on tv, and i didn't have anything DVRed!  ugh.  i was actually bored and too tired to go find something to do.  my head hurt anyway, and i was FREEZING so i went to bed!  right as i was about to turn my lamp off i realized i hadn't taken a picture of the day yet.  yikes!  so i grabbed my phone and snapped this:

saturday was not exciting.  the weather was yucky, so i didn't feel like taking a road trip.  instead i did a little housework and took a nap!  totally lazy!

that night was ladies' bunco at church.  it's a once a year event where we have a big tournament.  it was fun to play with ladies of all ages!  and i actually won a prize for most baby buncos!!!!  woo hoo!

sunday and smores

yesterday we had a blood drive at church.  lots of people showed up to donate, which was wonderful!  to make this process a little more fun, my friend kashia and i made a bet to see which one of us could fill up our bag with blood the fastest.

if won, she would GIVE a sugar cookie scent pack for my scentsy warmer (she sells scentsy stuff).  and if she won i would BUY the scent pack from her.  our bleeding times were very different.  one of us bled twice as fast as the other one!

my time....... 12 minutes, 36 seconds
kashia's time..... 5 minutes 37 seconds!

dang it!

tonight i had to pay up on my bet with the boys that they wouldn't sleep in the tent in the backyard all night last thursday night. (i'm beginning to think i shouldn't go to vegas!)  i told them if they could make it all night they could have s'mores since you've gotta have s'mores when you camp!  so tonight we made indoor s'mores!  hand-held lighters make great little fires for roasting marshmallows!

road trip with the family

today the whole hayes gang went on a road trip!  i've known for a week that we were going to go, so i had time to plan.  i searched and searched for something really cool to go see within the time limit we had, but i couldn't find anything.  so we just kind of winged it.

hey daryl, want some corn nuts?
daryl has serious issues with corn nuts, i'm afraid.  when he was a youth minister those things were not allowed on the church van because he hates the way they smell.  so when spencer opened up a bag of them, he immediately started griping!  i really don't think they smell bad.  they just smell like fritos to me.

so as we were going down the road at 65 miles an hour, the big nerd rolled down all the windows in the car and locked them so we couldn't roll them back up!  he just smirked and said, "as long as the corn nuts are open, the windows are staying down."  colby started yelling to roll the windows up, and i was laughing so hard i was crying!  in the end, daryl won.

our first stop was the bowling ball yard art place.  colby wanted to go there because he'd only been once, and he wanted daryl to see it, too.  now our whole family has been!

after that we headed to vinita, oklahoma for an early lunch.  we ate at clanton's cafe because it was featured on food network's "diners, drive-ins and dives" for its chicken fried steak and calf fries!  of course none of us chose the calf fries, but everything we ordered was yummy!!!  the best part of the meal, though, was the dessert.  daryl and i both got a piece of coconut cream pie, and it was by far the best i've ever eaten!  (sorry dad, yours is good, but they used whipped cream instead of meringue )  so if you are ever in vinita, definitely go by clanton's.
clanton's cafe
then we headed toward parsons, kansas.  there was nothing there to see.  it just fit our time frame of an hour and a half from bartlesville, and it was some place none of us had ever been.
i just liked it!

this sign was the best part of parsons
after driving through several towns and stopping at a few antique stores, we headed for independence, kansas.  we ended up at the riverside park and ralph mitchell zoo.  it was really a fun place to go!

gigantic slide

the merry-go-round was always a favorite of mine!

an old train you could climb on

a sign said this was a "vicious swan"

turtles still make me smile

staring contest
the really funny thing about these three monkeys is they were all staring at the humans who were looking at them!  there were 7 or 8 people just standing there looking at them, and neither species moved!
they really do like each other!

i love my 3 boys !

teeny tiny happy little red plant!
the ralph mitchell zoo had lots of animal statues all around the playground in kiddy land.  colby wanted his picture taken with ALL of them!  here are a few:
colby, the turtle

colby, the brave
rhino boy

have you hugged a rhino today?

hey!  quit picking my nose you silly rhino!

ribbitt

ahhhhh!!!  spider!!!!

daryl, the bump on a log!
he said that, not me!

oh, no!  a lion is trying to eat me!

humpty dumpty

my man and me!

colby, the crocodile hunter

i dared colby to sniff the skunk's hiney!

i kissed a skunk!

"hey, colby!  wanna race?"

my horse is too small!
one exhibit at this little zoo is monkey island.  it was home to the first monkey to ever go into outer space!  now a bunch of capuchin monkeys live there.  they were so fun to watch!  the vicious swan swims in a moat around their castle protecting them!

after the zoo, we had supper at the big cheese pizza place. good food...a little pricey, though.

and on the way home, god gave us a beautiful kansas sunset to enjoy!  what a great day!
