birthday boy goes sledding, day 2

guess what we did today....that's right!  we went sledding!

colby got hungry waiting for kashia to pick us up!
my footprints.  i thought they just looked cool.
 and away they go!
 wipeout!

today spencer and kashia thought of how many different ways they could go down on the sled.  it was quite fun to watch!

the duhons got to join us today! colby and mackenzie are on the orange sled, and jacob is on the green one.

um. colby.  you fell off your sled!
colby and mackenzie taking a breather....

spencer said, "look at me.  i have great balance like those women in africa."
rylie isn't being pulled because she's hurt.  she's a diva according to her mother!
 more geese!

does it look like the heart is coming out of the snow or going in to the snow?  hmmm....
 what about the smiley face?

i loved this tree against the blue sky.  i want to paint a picture like this. someday.....

now spencer thinks he should be pulled, too!  what does he think this is, his birthday or something?
 watch out mackenzie!

yes, that's me on the sled!  it was fun!!!

today really is spencer's 12th birthday!  after sledding we took him to lunch.  we were supposed to go to owasso or tulsa to go to the olive garden, but the roads are still not that great.  so spencer had to settle for something here, and he chose....golden corral! he'd never even been there, but he wanted to try it!

i kept trying to take his picture all during lunch, but he wouldn't look at me.  it was a challenge.  i told him his eyes looked really awesome with the sunlight coming in from the window and with his blue hoodie, but he wouldn't look up.
i even tried comparing his eyes to daryl's because spencer definitely got his eyes.  when spencer looked at him, this is what he saw!  psycho!
this is the best picture i got.  oh, well.

birthday boy
i sure do love this boy.  it makes me sad to think that in a few short years he'll be grown and gone.  more than half of his time with us is over.  geez, now my eyes are leaking.

sledding, day 1

my friend, kashia, asked thursday night if my boys wanted to go sledding on friday.  i didn't even have to ask the varmints!  i knew the answer to that question!

so yesterday morning we got all bundled up and drove around bartlesville looking for a fun and safe place to sled with 6 children.  you can tell by the looks on spencer's and rylie's faces that we spent way too much time driving....

after a long search we finally found a hill at the wesleyan church.  spencer wasted no time getting up that hill!

this is kashia's nephew, josh, wiping out!

it was quite a trek up that hill.  every once in a while i'd look up there and see everyone taking a break!

kashia and spencer....the dare devils!

i think that's spencer ducking behind josh!

i got distracted from the sledding by geese passing by. i LOVE the sound they make!

that's spencer with his hands folded, laying down and sledding!

not long after we got home from sledding, it started snowing again!  sheesh!  we only had a 30% chance, and it snowed for a couple of hours!

our local weatherman has been encouraging everyone to take care of the birds during this round of winter weather.  i finally felt bad for my feathered friends and threw some bread chunks out to them. however, smudge went out there and ate all of their bread!!!

ugh....varmint!

so i stopped throwing bread outside because it was pointless.  i laid the other pieces of bread down on daryl's desk so i could dry smudge off after rooting around in the snow.

i was on the phone with my parents when i saw a furry blur go by with a WHOLE piece of bread hanging out of his mouth!  i don't know how he got it!  there is no way he is tall enough to jump up on that desk!

the chase was on, only this time i had help.  spencer and colby joined the attack while i stayed on the phone with mom and dad.  they were laughing at the whole scene that was being described to them on the phone!

did you notice where he hid with the bread?  behind the recliner....the same place he went with my bag of cotton pads last time!  if he wasn't so stinkin' cute and funny, i'd really be mad at him!

out of hibernation...

so thursday, i couldn't stand it anymore.  i wanted to get out of the house, and i really wanted a dr. pepper!

daryl had gone to work, so i texted him and asked if he'd please come pick us up and we'd all go to lunch at la fiesta.  he agreed and we had a delicious not-cooked-by-me meal! (yay! tired of cooking, too)
after we got home from lunch the boys wanted to go play outside and work on their tunnel.  fine by me.

i got them bundled and out the door and then decided i wanted to go outside too.  plus smudge was whining and running around the house because the boys were outside.  i found his leash and bundle up and joined the boys outside.

and what did they do when they saw us outside?  did they yell, "yay!  mom's outside"? nope.

colby launched a snowball at me!

and they threw snow at smudge who couldn't get away because i had him tied up!

 back end...

front end...i just don't get why they like to put their faces in the snow.

but smudge likes to do it too!
smudge got back at colby for throwing snow.  he wrapped himself around colby's legs and took him down!

then smudge helped them dig another tunnel.  such a helpful little dog!

i just love my gloves, so i took a picture of them with snow on them!

then i left the boys digging and went for a walk down the street.  that's our house.
 and this is our street.

after my walk, i was done with being outside in the cold. so i went back inside and knitted this:
isn't it cute?

when the boys came back in, spencer wanted to play cards. smudge did, too!
