the boys are finally well, but unfortunately, they shared their illness with daryl! he was sick all week. poor guy. he sleeps REALLY hard when he takes nyquil, so i moved out. i set up camp in the extra bedroom, a.k.a. studio A. i spent 3 nights on the air mattress in there with pig. although the mattress isn't as comfortable as my bed, it was definitely warmer in there!

new sleeping arrangements
this next picture is gross, so you might just want to skip right over it. don't say i didn't warn you!
smudge is actually a pretty smart dog....he's started using the bathroom in the boys' bathroom! too bad he's not tall enough to make it in the toilet!

poop
(maybe someday spencer will stop leaving his clothes in the bathroom floor! they've been puked on by colby, and now pooped on by smudge!)
from poop to diapers....that's a logical transition, right?
thursday night i went to a friend's house to help get ready for a baby shower that we hosted for one of our friends today. i learned how to make a diaper cake! i'd seen them before at baby showers, but i didn't know how easy they were to make. we had to roll and tape a bunch of diapers!
after we rolled diapers, we rolled pink balls! it was actually mint dough. well, i guess it's not really dough. it was mint something! all i know is i rolled lots and lots of little pink mint balls that i then smashed with a fork!

pink balls and mints
friday the weather was gorgeous! the boys put on their shorts after school, and we all played in the backyard! it was so nice that i opened all the doors and windows to let some fresh air in our germ-infested house!
i can't wait until the weather is warm enough to have the cover off our pool!
our perfect warm afternoon was quickly interrupted by a certain big varmint!
i was in the kitchen starting supper when colby came in smiling. he just stood there looking at me, so i knew something was up. then i heard spencer saying, "i didn't mean to! it was an accident!" i looked past colby and saw some nasty orange gooey spots on the WHITE carpet.
me: what's that????
colby: rotten apple
me: why is there rotten apple on the carpet?
colby: spencer threw it at me!
me: SPENCER WHY ARE YOU THROWING ROTTEN APPLES IN THE HOUSE????
spencer: i wasn't IN the house when i threw it. i tried to hit colby, but he ducked and it flew through the open door!
colby: yeah, look! there it is!
i hadn't actually stepped in to the living room at this point. i had only seen the spots on the carpet. this is what i found in addition to the spots on the carpet!

rotten apple
the weather was beautiful again on saturday, so of course i went on a road trip! i even invited the varmints to go with me. :) (daryl wanted to go but he was still feeling yucky, and he said he didn't want to ruin our trip by being grouchy!)
our new car makes traveling great because the boys can s-p-r e-a-d out!
since daryl wasn't with us, i was able to get the ultimate road trip snack....corn nuts!!! daryl hates the smell of them, and i found out, so does colby! too bad for colby! i love corn nuts....
this was the first cool sighting of the day. these are saddles hanging on a fence, but the cool part is there is a red milk can with an 'A' on it! i had to turn the car around and go back to get a picture! there was an old farmer standing outside. he just waved at me when i pulled over on his land to take the picture.
our first destination was miami (pronounced my-am-uh, i don't know why.), oklahoma. i read online that there was an iconic route 66 burger joint in miami. it was the last one of this franchise still in existence. i thought this sounded like a perfect place to have lunch!
it was called ku ku's hamburgers. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't what i expected from the description online. i thought i was going to be stepping back in time to a 50's diner, but it just looked like an old Wendy's to me. and they had 80s music playing!
we passed this store called 'treasure hunt' on the way to to ku-ku's, so after we ate, i had to go check it out! the name was just too cool to pass up! i should have passed it up, though. waste of time. bummer.
our main destination was galena, kansas. it is a small town located on historic route 66 just a few miles from the missouri border. when i was trying to figure out where to go on our trip, i looked on the website called roadsideamerica.com. it is a site that tells about unique places to visit in the u.s. it was here that i found out about Tow Tater.
it is an old tow truck in galena, kansas that became the inspiration for Tow Mater in the disney movie, cars. i love that movie and that character, so i just HAD to go see this! it was definitely NOT disappointing!

tow tater
it sits on the lot of an old gas station that some ladies have turned in to a little store/museum type place. it wasn't open, but the tow truck was! it was unlocked so we got to climb inside. so fun!
there was also an old fire engine on the lot. it was also unlocked, and it seemed like the boys were more interested in that!
if i hadn't had the boys with me, i could have spent a lot more time downtown in galena. most of the buildings were closed, but i would have loved to just explore and take pictures!
since we were so close to the missouri border, i decided we should just go on over! that way we could say we were in 3 states! we didn't do anything there except drive around looking for an old ice cream shop, but we didn't find one in joplin.
so we just turned around and headed back to the dairy queen we saw in galena. nothing tops off a warm day and fun road trip like a DQ blizzard!
did you know that the blizzard is 25 years old? that makes ME feel old!
all that fun wore the boys out!
it made me tired, too! i had a really hard time waking up this morning. it didn't help that the dog was snuggled up at my feet....
and colby had come in sometime in the morning and snuggled up beside me! we were all so cozy....
quote of the day: "it's physically impossible for girls to fart, i mean toot!" ~colby
